Zachys’ Inaugural D.C. Auction: 100% Sold, $5.4 Million Realized

There’s money in Washington.  Lots of it.  Latest proof, for two days, Zachys, the auction house, auctioned off nearly 1400 lots.

Top lots included DRC Romanée-Conti, several lots of which set American auction records: three bottles of Romanée Conti 2012 (lot 988) sold for $41,820 and three bottles of the 2012 (lot 989) sold for $44,280. Twelve bottles of Rousseau Chambertin 2010 (lot 1716) set a world auction record by selling for $34,440.

Additional lots of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti were top performers, with 45 lots realizing $525,087, surpassing the pre-auction high estimate of $444,500. A total of 717 lots, nearly half of the auction, sold above their pre-auction high estimates, and 49 lots sold for over $10,000.

“We were thrilled with the results of our inaugural D.C. auction, as was the Capital Collector himself, who joined us for both days in the sale room. The prices for rare Burgundy like DRC, Ramonet, Rousseau, Mugnier were strong, and we can’t wait to bring the energy back to New York for our Holiday Auction on December 1 and 2,” added Zachys’ President Jeff Zacharia.

In addition, as part of Zachys’ California Strong initiative,  Zachys will donate $12,305, 100% of the buyer’s premium from California lots sold, to California wildfire relief. The company as a whole reached their $25,000 goal, and all proceeds will be split amongst the three noted charities.
