Top Bev/Al Lobbyists Urge Inclusion of Craft Bill in Tax Law

In a letter to the top members of the House Ways & Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee, the Beer Institute, Brewers Association, Wine Institute, Wine America, Distilled Spirits Council and American Craft Spirits Association urged the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform provisions of the Senate Tax Cuts and Jobs Act be included in any final version of tax reform sent to President Trump for signature.

The letter notes that since its introduction in 2015, the Craft Beverage bill “has enjoyed overwhelming bipartisan support in Congress. . . . Of the more than 400 tax-related bills introduced in the House, (the Craft Beverage Bill) is more co-sponsors than any other bill referred to the Ways & Means Committee.”

The letter notes the National Taxpayers Union has described the Craft Beverage Bill as a “no brainer” bill that is “commonsense, bipartisan legislation.”  The letter also notes that “every congressional district in the United States includes a brewery, winery, distillery, importer, or industry supplier.”

Copies of the letter were also sent to every member of both the House and Senate committees, along with Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
