Jimmy Hendrix Estate Sues Hendrix’s Brother Over Bottle Design

The Purple Haze liqueur bottle features a stylized drawing of the late guitarist as well as his signature.

A federal court in Georgia noted Hendrix’s “undeniable fame,” and said Tiger Paw Distributors, hadn’t any right to use the word “Jimi” on the bottle or website.

However, the court also ruled that Tiger Paw can continue calling their product “Purple Haze Liqueur” and that the drawing of Hendrix wasn’t similar to the “bust” mark owned by Hendrix’s estate.
