Distiller Set to Leave Anti-Alcohol County

Vincent Puccio and his partner, William T. Willis, own and operate Dry Fork Fruit Distillery in Meadows of Dan in Patrick County, Va.  But they can’t sell their product on premises there because Patrick County does not allow liquor by the drink.

So they plan to move the distillery to downtown Danville, Va., which is becoming a tourist destination.  “You’ve got tourism and entertainment down there,” Puccio to the Martinsville (Pa.) Bulletin.  “It all works together.”

Their 100 proof and 80 proof whiskeys include corn and fruit whiskeys.  Flavors include blueberry, strawberry, blackberry and Damson plum.  Production ins about 2,500 gallons a year.

You can blame the Virginia state legislature if Patrick County loses this business.  The most the county council could do was to send a letter supporting an exception to current law to enable Dry Fork to stage tastings.
