Cooper Spirits Sets Limited Release of 100 Proof Rock and Rye

Cooper Spirits Co., Philadelphia, announces a 100 Proof Hochstadter’s Slow & Low Rock & Rye. This limited release has a drier taste profile than Slow & Low 84 Proof and it sports a striking hunter orange label that further distinguishes it as well.

Slow & Low is based on America’s original bottled cocktail – “rock and rye” – and takes its inspiration from the Hochstadter label’s pre-prohibition era recipe. It combines straight rye whiskey, air-dried navel oranges from Florida, 100% raw honey from Western Pennsylvania, Angostura Bitters and a small dose of rock candy. Slow & Low is best enjoyed straight from the bottle – Savor it neat, over ice for an instant Old Fashioned, or paired with a beer, as a shot.

Rock and Rye dates back to the early 1800s, when barkeeps in saloons would serve a shot of rye whiskey, often unaged and unpalatable to many, with a small bowl of rock candy which could be added by the customer to help take the edge off. Later, to avoid consequences of the growing temperance movement, the drink moved to pharmacy counters as a pre-bottled cure-all for the common cold, sniffles, sore throats, coughs and any manner of ailment.

“We had a very positive response to the limited-edition 8-year Slow & Low we introduced in 2015,” said Robyn Greene, SVP of Marketing and Innovation at Cooper Spirits Co.   “We are thrilled to be able to give consumers the opportunity to enjoy Slow & Low with an age statement by offering the 6-year.”

At 50% alc/vol, the Slow & Low 100 Proof 6-year retails at the suggested price of $39.99 per 750ml bottle.
